Hiatus

Hi all,

Due to some major changes in our schedules (and lives), Defenders of the Week is going on hiatus for a while, at least until we feel comfortable contributing consistently as we were in the early going. As you may have noticed, the past few weeks have seen only two or three entries, and rather than continue with a severely limited number weekly, we thought it best to rest a spell and then come back rejuvenated with many more Defenders for many more weeks.

Thank you for your support, encouragement and appreciation. And we’ll see you again soon.

He’s also capable of shrinking standard sized objects, for transportation or for safety. Sadly, he has yet to find a means to increase his own height, and is doomed to remain chibi forever.

Week 11 Recap: The Pin-Dragons of Slam-A-Lot

Week 11 saw the debut of the grapplers from ancient Briton, The Pin-Dragons, wrestling both with their enemies and with the rules of modern professional wrestling. King Arthur, Guy Galahad and The Lady of the Lake were passed over in the history books, but we’ve finally given them their due.

Week 12 introduces a partnership of Japanese sci-fi film heroes, The Tokusatsu.

King Arthur on the fiddle, and The Lady of the Lake accepting Guy Galahad’s invitation to dance. It can’t all be body slams and turnbuckle leaps, can it?

The leader of the Pin-Dragons, King Arthur long ago decided to cut out the middle man and just made himself the Round Table. Or, the Round Ring, as it were. His powerful steeds ferry him about Briton, ever hunting out discord and injustice and, upon finding it, pits those at adds with one another in combat in his Round Ring. Should the ensuing contest appear to favor one side over the other due to strength or weight or experience, Arthur evens those odds by just manhandling the favorite until the playing field is more level. In this way he serves to keep the peae in his kingdom.

Sir Guybrush Galahad is well known for being the purest and most noble of all the Knights of the Round Table, and he knows it. He is smug, brash, and arrogant before all who are in his presence. If he feels you are deemed “worthy,” you will be splashed with his Holy Grail juice. This is very rarely a good thing to any who cross him. He often hides his signature shield under the ring as a last resort tactic.

Guy Galahad may be pure, but he is not noble. Well, not as noble as he would like you to think.

Week 10 Recap: The Stages of Grief

It was a sad week last week as the villains, The Stages of Grief, took over, leaving us at the mercy of characters such as Denial, Anger, Depression and Acceptance.

However, the grief has now passed and we can look forward to a brighter tomorrow in the form of Week 11’s heroes, a group of Arthurian pro wrestlers known as The Pin-Dragons of Slam-A-Lot.

One look into his eyes and you will come to grips with the sorry state which this former world class circus performing clown has fallen to. Once known to hundreds of children everywhere as “BooGoo The Amazing!” He turned to alcohol and drugs under the stress of circus life. He tried to turn his life around in the military but

was dishonorably discharged for making fun of his superior officers and putting his fellow soldiers in harms way trying to recreate his famed “human cannonball act.”

Out of money and rolling (literally) on the streets he came to terms with his sad existence. He was now known as “BooHoo The Saddest Clown That Ever Lived.” Don’t let him catch you staring at him because if you do, you will have to come to terms with your own sorry existence and doomed fate.

Melan Coliene is the representation of Depression. The night after her husband proposed to her he was tragically killed in a boating accident. This drove her to such a feeling of loss and dread that she poured all of her emotions into her engagement ring.

This caused the ring to embody the spiritual representation of her drowned husband to comfort and console her. Though his spirit cannot touch her, it can cause anyone nearby suffer a similar fate, “drowning” in an unfathomable depression. Donning the ring reunites her with her lost love, but at what cost?

Week 9’s heroes, The Infallibles, all based on logical fallacies, proved true to their name in their indomitable debut this past week. Easily one of the strangest groups we’ve compiled yet, the teaming of Bandwagon, Nose of the Camel, Black and White, The Strawman, Texas Sharpshooter and Cherry Picker was an interesting one indeed.

For Week 10 we’re bringing in a new group of villains (or offenders of the week), a darker take on The Stages of Grief.

Representing the Texas Sharpshooter and Cherry Picker fallacies… Once the most accurate shooter in the wild west, old age and a propensity to stare off squinting into the sun dramatically caught up with Tex, leaving him blind, and now only the most PRECISE shooter in the west. His offspring became worried that their inheritance was in jeopardy, as he almost made a herd of cattle his primary benefactor, so they left their daughter Cherry Picker with him to take care of him (and keep him away from that will…). Unfortunately she isn’t the best eyes either (don’t blame her, she’s only a toddler!).

Odds are he’ll never hit you, but if he does, he’ll fill you with lead faster than you can say “broad side of a barn”. The only question is, Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Representing the Slippery Slope fallacy, Abrahem, The Nose of the Camel was unsure of his place in the world before joining the Israeli army. He served his country well and became a decorated special operations team leader in a very short time. While on one fated mission his entire platoon was ambushed and gunned down by rebels. The only survivor, albeit at the expense of one of his eyes, Abrahem was taken to the rebel chief. Admiring his strength and perseverance, the chief bestowed upon Abrahem a gift, albeit one that came with a curse, the legendary Klerksdorp Sphere, replacing Abrahem’s lost eye.

The Klerksdorp Sphere allows him to “slip” briefly into the future so he may witness forthcoming events and attacks. Because time is fluid, his predictions are not always correct, as they rarely require proof or logic. This often sends him down a slippery slope. He is often compared to the old proverb, “If the camel once gets his nose in the tent, his body will soon follow.” He now fights for lost soldiers wandering the deserts of the world, telling them to mind their actions because he has seen the consequences.

Bandwagon gains its power based on the number of people who join its journey, and the more who join, the easier it becomes to recruit ever more members for its unfathomable trek…
